Custom Apprenticeship Tracking Application & Live Event Facilitation

Building Trades of Alberta Training Society (BTATS)

ABOUT BTATS

Building Trades of Alberta Training Society is jointly funded by the Building Trades of Alberta and the Government of Alberta. The Building Trades of Alberta Training Society recognized that many apprentices do not complete their training and created a service to support apprentices at risk of not progressing. With funding from the Building Trades of Alberta and a grant from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, The Apprenticeship Support & Knowledge Centre (ASK) online platform was established to provide training, answer questions, and coach apprentices through the apprenticeship system.

PROJECT & SOLUTION

UnionX Software Inc was engaged to develop the Modular Registry of Apprentices – The ASK Portal. The digital solution included a registry database, cloud domain, user interface, and reporting capabilities to support the strategic and operational plan of the ASK project. The project was developed in two phases, phase one involved the creation of a modular registry of apprentices, and phase two developed innovative projects for apprentices.

The high-level goals of the project were to track the demographic information of each apprentice, allow each Member Union to access the data on their apprentices, provide the ability for users to manipulate and report on the data, capture the work and school hours for each apprentice and provide an easy to use interface for the BTATS to interact with apprentices to help them progress through their apprenticeship levels.

KEY IMPACTS

  • Project completed on time and under budget.
  • Online portal brought together apprenticeship data of 16 affiliated BTA Member Unions securely.
  • Increased apprenticeship to journeyperson success rate.
  • Increased opportunities for skilled building trades within the region.
  • Facilitation of apprenticeship conferences in person and online.
  • ASK portal helped establish high-quality training and certification standards for apprenticeship and industry training system for the region.

FEEDBACK

“Our company has been using LegacyX for a while now. They have always been there when we needed them. Most recently we had a virtual conference. Darrin and his team stepped up for us and made sure it ran without a hitch. Can’t thank them enough.”
