Building Trades of Alberta Training Society is jointly funded by the Building Trades of Alberta and the Government of Alberta. The Building Trades of Alberta Training Society recognized that many apprentices do not complete their training - and set out to change that by leveraging data and technology to support apprenticeship completion.

Project & Solution

UnionX Software Inc was engaged to develop the Modular Registry of Apprentices - The ASK Portal. The digital solution included a registry database, cloud domain, user interface, and reporting capabilities.

The high-level goals of the project were to track the demographic information of each apprentice, allow each Member Union to access the data on their apprentices, and provide actionable insights to improve training outcomes across the region.

• ✓ Online portal brought together apprenticeship data of 16 affiliated BTA Member Unions securely.
• ✓ Increased apprenticeship to journeyperson success rate.
• ✓ Increased opportunities for skilled building trades within the region.
• ✓ Facilitation of apprenticeship conferences in person and online.
• ✓ ASK portal helped establish high-quality training and certification standards for apprenticeship and industry training system for the region.
